Sunisa Lee aged into senior in 2019, which was her first year on the women's senior national team, a position she was offered after winning the silver medal at the 2019 US Championships.. She is a strong all-around gymnast whose best events are uneven bars and floor. In her first senior US Nationals, she won gold on the uneven bars. At the Worlds Trials, Sunisa finished in second just 0.350 behind the legendary Simone Biles. She is perhaps the strongest gymnast on the US team behind Biles, even at the young age of 17.
Some of the highlights from her debut senior season:
• Member of the gold medal winning World Championships team in 2019
• Individual all-around gold medalist at the 2019 City of Jesolo Trophy
• Silver medalist on floor at the 2019 World Championships
• Awarded the bronze medal on uneven bars at the 2019 World Championships
Personal
Sunisa Lee was born on March 9, 2003 and is one of 6 children in her family. She began gymnastics at the age of 6, and stuck with it because, as she said, she "liked to do flips."
In her free time, Suni enjoys camping and fishing, listening to pop music, and reading Harry Potter books. Her favorite food is pasta.
When it comes to gymnastics, she truly enjoys the sport and also hanging out with her friends and fellow gymnasts. Her favorite apparatus is the beam.
Sunisa will graduate from high school in 2021, just in time for the Olympics. She plans to attend Auburn University as a part of their gymnastics team.
