Gymnastics
Sophia Butler first qualified as junior international elite in 2018. After a wonderful first elite season, she was asked to join the national team in 2019 as a junior, moving up to senior for the 2020 season. She is known for her beautiful flexibility, grace, and artistic routines.
Some of her gymnastics career highlights include:
• Member of the 2019 Junior City of Jesolo Trophy silver medal winning team
• In the 2018 WOGA Classic, she ended second all around and on floor, and third on bars and vault
• At the Houston 2020 National Invitational, she took home gold in the all around, and on bars and floor
• Gold medalist on floor at the 2020 WOGA Classic
Personal
Sophia Butler was born on June 27, 2004 in Houston, Texas where she still resides with her parents and brother. She started in gymnastics at the age of 4, and when asked how she became involved in the sport, she stated:
"I was always standing on my head and trying flips off the couch so my mom put me in gymnastics."
Her favorite events in gymnastics are bars and floor, and she loves being able to travel for competitions.
In her spare time, Sophia likes shopping, listening to music, and spending time with her friends and family.
Sophia is committed to the University of Florida and will begin her career there in 2022. Image from USAGym.org
