Gymnastics
Jade Carey is a three-time member of the women's national team, first being invited in 2017. Carey has had much international success, being members of the 2019 Worlds and 2017 Pan Am gold medal winning teams. Though asked to be a member of the 2018 Worlds team, Jade declined, telling USAG that she had decided to pursue the 2020 Olympics "as an individual through the apparatus World Cup series, which precludes her competing on the 2018 World Team." After competing on vault and floor at the World Cup series events held in 2018 and 2019, Jade Carey has officially clinched her spot at the 2020NE Olympics in Tokyo as an individual. She is the only American gymnast that has secured a spot at these Olympics.
Here are just a few gymnastics highlights from her career so far:
• Member of the gold medal winning Worlds team in 2019
• Won gold on both floor and vault at the Baku (2019), Doha (2019), and Melbourne (2020) FIG World Cup Series competitions
• Member of the 2018 Pan Am gold medal winning team, also clinching individual gold on vault and floor
• Won the individual silver medal on vault behind Simone Biles at Worlds in 2019, after scoring higher than Simone in the qualification round
Personal
Jade was born on May 27, 2020. She currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her parents and three siblings. When asked how she became involved in gymnastics at the age of two, she said,
"My parents owned a gym when I was born so I was always in the gym playing!"
Outside of gymnastics, her favorite hobby is archery. In the world of gymnastics, her favorite event is the vault, and what she enjoys most about the sport is the travel and getting to meet so many amazing gymnasts from around the world.
Jade graduated from Mountain Ridge High School in 2018 and formally committed to attend Oregon State University as a member of their gymnastics team.
Jade will compete as an individual at the 2O2ONE Olympics in Tokyo.
