This is the moment you’ve been dreaming of since the time you were old enough to say the word Olympics. Nerves are high, excitement is unmatched, and fear is undoubtedly overwhelming. As a lifelong fan of gymnastics, and a diehard fan of each one of you, I want to congratulate you. I also want to advise you to enjoy it. Take in every second, every sound, every emotion. Feel it and feel it hard... feel it all, because no matter the outcome, you’ve done it. You’ve made it. You’ve accomplished what thousands upon thousands have dreamed and few have achieved... and you are the few. Be unashamedly proud of yourselves, because we, your fans and supporters, are indescribably proud of you. Every single one of you.
But it’s more than that. I’m not just proud. I’m grateful beyond words for so many things. For allowing us to follow all of you for years, watching you grow from young phenoms to untouchable athletes and adults. People who strive to not only be great at their sport, but role models for young girls and boys who dream of one day being the few themselves. For using your voices and positions in this sport to make a change for the better so that moms like me can watch peacefully as our babies follow in your giant footsteps. For celebrating a successful routine when not too long ago that might have been frowned upon. For having dance parties before awards so we can all smile and dance along with you, knowing that smiles of the little ones we dance beside will never ever be forgotten by them. For persevering, for never giving up, for working hard and then posting TikTok videos of pure enjoyment behind the scenes. You have all inspired countless others more than you can currently fathom, and inspiring others in the profound way you have is an honor that should be recognized and felt. Take pride in that as we take pride in you.
This Olympics might not look exactly as you always hoped it would. You might not hear us or see us in the stands, but I hope you feel us every step of the way. We're cheering with you and for you, feeling your nerves but confidently knowing all you are capable of, joining in on your pride as we, the entire United States, is so proud of you and are honored to be represented by you. It might not be how you imagined it, but enjoy every second because you did it. You made it. You are the few. Though you can't see us, we are here supporting you just the same. And we love you.
